Winnipeg Centre
Winnipeg Centre
Welcome to the most dynamic, diversified and delightful riding in Winnipeg. Winnipeg Centre encompasses all that is highlighted in the tourist brochures. It is home to our provincial and civic seats of government, federal offices, the halls of justice and many businesses. It is home to the city’s playgrounds - The Forks, MTS Arena, the Ballpark; it is the place you come to watch our many parades and firework displays. When you want to attend the ballet, the symphony, see a play or enjoy the wonders of space at the planetarium you must come to Winnipeg Centre. When you want to have a night on the town we welcome you to our countless dining establishments and nightclubs. If you like history, visit the Museum of Man and Nature, take a walk through the constantly improving Exchange District, and then browse the many art galleries. Also within the confines of Winnipeg Centre we have the University of Winnipeg, the downtown campus of Red River College, and some extension services of the University of Manitoba, and let us not forget The Health Science Centre. Shopping? Would you believe the following malls, Portage Place, City Place, Winnipeg Square and of course Polo Park are all within our confines.
But Winnipeg Centre has a much softer side. The side that is presented by our over 80,000 residents that are once again the most diversified in our city. There are the many high-rise apartments in the downtown area that are the homes of many empty nesters, young professionals, and even families. Our riding also encompasses what some lovingly refer to as the granola belt - the Wolseley area with its stately homes, magnificent trees, and people who work tirelessly to maintain their neighbourhood. Cross over the most famous Portage Avenue and you are in what is called the west end. A working class part of the city, home to some of those people who are the heroes of our modern society. People who work hard at their jobs, maintain their homes, yards and neighbourhoods, volunteer at the community clubs and schools used by their children and grandchildren.
